Spring and summer activity links:
The Borough of Doylestown offers the full spectrum
of park and recreation
facilities ranging from fully developed municipal parks
to athletic fields, to passive natural areas to neighborhood
pocket parks. In addition, the County of Bucks and Central
Bucks School District provide park and recreation facilities
within the Borough.
The Borough of Doylestown owns and maintains seven
(7) municipal parks totaling over 80 acres. Chapman
Park is the centerpiece of the park system featuring
the Borough's Fishing Pond, (home of the annual Youth
Fishing Program), lighted volleyball and basketball
courts, a tot lot, fitness trails, and a lovely natural
forest and stream area. In addition, Chapman Park is
the home of the Fanny Chapman Swimming Pool complex.
Veterans Memorial Park at Maplewood is the Borough's
largest park and also contains a large natural forest
area with a system of nature trails. This park is also
home to two (2) of the Doylestown Athletic Association's
premier baseball fields.
Three more baseball and softball fields are found at
Community Fields Park along with the Borough's three
tennis courts. Burpee Park also contains a softball
field and the Borough's most extensive system of play
equipment. In addition, Burpee houses the Borough picnic
pavilion, available for public use by calling 215-345-4140.
Another play area is found at War Memorial Park located
next to War Memorial Field Stadium.
Rounding out the park system are two (2) neighborhood
pocket parks; Wood Street and Hillside Avenue. These
less than one-acre parks are designed to serve the immediate
area in which they reside and serve as a focal point
for the surrounding neighborhood.
Borough Park and Recreation Programs include Summer
Arts and Crafts and Outdoor Games for children, an annual
Tennis Tournament, Summer Youth Basketball, the Youth
Fishing Program and a series of Summer Children Shows.
For more information on these programs call 215-345-4140.
The Bucks County Historical Society (not the County
of Bucks) owns and maintains an extensive natural area
on the grounds of the Fonthill Museum and Tile Works
on East Court Street. These grounds feature acres of
pristine woodlands criss-crossed by a series of walking
trails. The Moravian Tile Works and 10 adjacent acres is
maintained and operated by the County of Bucks.
The Central Bucks School District owns and maintains
a number of athletic fields and play areas at Central
Bucks West High School, Lenape Middle School and at
Doyle and Linden Elementary Schools.
Doylestown Borough and Doylestown Township are also
working to create the Doylestown Community Bike and
Hike System joining the two communities. With the Intermunicipal
"Joint Bike and Hike Committee" acting as impetus, portions
of the system have already been completed, including
a lengthy stretch on West Street at Doyle Elementary
School, with the remainder projected to be constructed
in the next 10 to 20 years.
