Doylestown Borough Permit Applications and Fee Schedule

Doylestown Borough requires permits for:

Construction, alteration or demolition of buildings

Commercial Use and Occupancy of a building or space in a building - Information and Sample form Actual form is tri-part carbonless and will need to be picked up at the office or you can request to have it mailed to you,

It is the responsibility of the owner or his/her construction representative to notify the Code Enforcement Office when the required items to be inspected are complete and ready for inspection. Any work that requires an inspection shall not be concealed without approval of the Building Inspector. If any work has begun prior to issuance of a permit an immediate STOP WORK order will be issued and permit fees will be doubled.

Contact the Borough office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to schedule inspections at (215) 345-4140 DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE.
Inspections must be scheduled a minimum of 48 hours in advance.

A 48 hour notice does not guarantee availability of inspection. Inspections will be conducted at 30 minute intervals.

Required Inspections:

Footing and Foundation Inspection of the foundation shall be made after poles or piers are set or trenches or basement areas are excavated and any required forms erected and any required reinforcing steel is in place and prior to placement of concrete. Ready mix concrete shall meet within accordance of ASTM C94.

Concrete slab and/or
Backfill Concrete slab and under-floor inspection shall be made after in-slab or under-floor reinforcing steel and building service equipment, conduit, piping accessories and other ancillary equipment items are in place, but before any concrete is placed or floor sheathing installed, including sub floor. Foundation must be parged and all drain material in place prior to a backfill inspection.

Flood-plain As determined in areas prone to flooding in accordance with section 1612.5 and table R301.2(1)

Plumbing, Mechanical,
Gas and Electrical systems Rough inspection of plumbing, mechanical, gas and electrical systems shall be made prior to covering or concealment, before fixtures or appliances are installed, and prior to framing inspection. Pressure tests for plumbing must meet applicable codes. Underwriter inspection and approval must be complete on electrical. Rough Framing (You must also contact, schedule, and pass with PA L&I for ADA rough inspections)


Fire Resistance Where fire-resistance is required between buildings and dwellings. Prior to finishing with plaster or wallboard joints and fasteners are taped and finished.

Insulation - Once all insulation is installed.

Final - All utilities are operational and the unit is ready for occupancy. Your “permit pouch” must be returned, failure to do so may delay issuance of Occupancy. Cost of permit pouches $5. (You must contact, schedule, and pass with PA L&I for ADA FINAL inspections)

Fire Suppression System Special Steel/Concrete Structures Mechanical/Gas Line

Fire Prevention Poured Concrete or Block Walls Use and Occupancy

Fire Alarm Engineered Truss Sanitary Sewer/ Water Service

Use and Occupancy - Schedule once unit is ready and new occupant is secured
